Kingston Council has failed to act on fixing a dangerous pedestrian crossing outside busy Norbiton Train Station for nine months – and counting. One of the belisha beacon warning lights has been missing from the crossing since it was reported by a member of the public, in September last year. Despite several further reports and chasing by the Coombe Hill ward Councillors, there has still been no action taken, and no date given for the repairs to take place.
Cllr Ian George said: “It is really shocking that LibDem-led Kingston Council has ignored the pleas of residents and the Conservative ward councillors to fix this problem urgently. Anybody uses Norbiton Station knows that the crossing is particularly busy and well used. It is simply dangerous to ignore the loss of a belisha beacon for 9 months or more, especially at night. Kingston Council’s inaction is putting the lives of pedestrians at risk, and we are calling on the Council Leader and Chief Executive Office to intervene, and put their house in order. It’s not good enough.”
