The proposed new leisure centre for Kingston

The planning application for the replacement Kingfisher pool and leisure centre was approved by the Planning Committee this week. The Kingfisher closed more than 5 years ago, and was famously knocked down by the LibDem-run Council before they had proper plans to replace it.

At the Planning Committee, Conservative councillor Ian George said: "It's fantastic to see this here. It's what we've all been waiting for. It's going to provide a great service for local residents... having said that, as a council in general, we certainly shouldn't be patting ourselves on the back. This is completely ridiculous that it's taken over five years to get to this stage."
