Thames Water has confirmed that a ‘permanent solution’ for Kingston Vale’s repeated sewer problems is to start in early June. The long awaited large-scale repairs should mean the end to the repeated temporary repairs that have caused so much inconvenience over the last couple of years, with road closures in Kingston Vale and lane closures on the A3.
However, it is no simple repair, with the work on the rising main expected to start on 9th June and last until sometime in September.
In order for Thames Water to carry out the work, they will be working both in Derwent Avenue and Kingston Vale. A full road closure will be in operation along Derwent Avenue while a lane closure will in place on Kingston Vale near the Derwent Avenue junction with a two-way traffic light set up for the duration of our works. A sign-posted diversion will be in place. Work will take place from 7am until 7pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am until 2pm on Saturdays.
Along with local residents Rowena and Ian (your Coombe Hill Councillors) have been pushing for this permanent solution to this long-term problem. We have even been lobbying OFWAT and the Secretary of State. The downside is the length of time that the work is now expected to take. It would obviously have saved a lot of inconvenience (and money) if this had been done a year or two ago, but we are where we are, and this is positive news.
Cllr Rowena Bass and Cllr Ian George will be liaising with Thames Water to try and ensure that the work is carried out as swiftly as possible. In the meantime, please get in touch if you have any concerns or notice any problems.
