Kingston’s LibDem councillors are hiding from public scrutiny

Kingston's Guildhall

Hounslow residents are being given the opportunity to put questions to senior councillors in a Question Time type format. An independent member of the public will chair the panel session, inviting members of the public to put their questions forward. Other councils do this too.

Kingston Council used to run such events years ago, but the LibDems changed the meetings to stage-managed events, then cancelled them all together. Currently residents can ask questions at the beginning of some committee meetings, but once again the LibDems changed the rules to limit the time, and limit the opportunity to ask any really searching questions. All Kingston residents get is questions in advance only, and pre-written responses given by officers rather than the councillors in charge.

Kingston’s LibDems simply will not allow the councillors who run the Council to be properly scrutinised in public as other councils do. What have they got to hide?
