Like most people, Rowena Bass and Ian George are supportive of improving road safety and encouraging people to use public transport, cycle and walk. However, Kingston’s LibDems are taking their attack on local car drivers too far with big increases in parking charges and unreasonable road closures and restrictions.
LibDems increased many parking charges 3-fold: We opposed the ridiculous charges that are harming local businesses, and we helped force a review.
Yellow Box Junctions generating over £2,000 in fines per day: We have been campaigning to stop the unnecessarily long yellow boxes, which are unfair to local drivers.
Cuts to pothole repairs: We voted against the cuts to this important service which we all pay for, and we successfully campaigned for repairs to some of the worst local roads.
Undemocratic introduction of 20mph limits: Resulting in fines and points for local drivers. We asked for better signage especially at the change from 30 to 20mph on Kingston Hill.
Crescent Road closure resulting in 11,000 fines: We voted against the closure that causes traffic chaos, got many fines cancelled, and supported residents so their voices were heard.
