Lib Dem plans to concrete the Borough

Ed Davey’s Lib Dem run Council has launched a consultation on where it will build 30,000 homes across the Borough to meet the rising growth in the population.

Whilst we know many residents want new homes built residents will be surprised by some of the proposals and the sheer scale of development the Lib Dems wish to deliver.

The Lib Dem papers say:

“We have an opportunity to identify sites across the borough to help us meet our housing need, as part of the Issues and Options consultation. Although we have housing targets, we must also identify potential locations to deliver the land for employment generating uses as well. This document looks at a range of possible sites that may be needed for development within the borough over the next 20+ years.”

Cllr Kevin Davis said:

“We need homes, but this plan appears to be homes at any price and the cost will be over-development, the loss of green spaces and the shoehorning of homes into some of the smallest spaces left, ruining some parts of the Borough.”

“Some of these proposal sites will alarm residents. Over 8,000 homes on the Berrylands water treatment works would dramatically change not just Berrylands and Surbiton, but the entire Borough. Add to that many more homes in Knight’s Park, building on Kingsmeadow and virtually pulling apart Chessington with 900 homes on the golf centre and nearly 3,000 homes on Barwell Court and Clayton Road. Even the green spaces left in Tolworth appear to be targeted. Residents will be angry about many of these proposals and the question has to be asked why the Council is even suggesting these sites? I would urge everyone to make sure they have their say”

The full list of sites that are being considered for development can be seen on the Council website. The list below is an extract of sites based on the master list. The Council will be consulting on these sites later this year. The list can be accessed here
