Kingston’s LibDem-controlled Council are to increase the Council Tax by 4%, the maximum amount allowed without balloting local residents. The increase is a repeat of last year’s Council Tax hike, the second maximum increase in the two years since they controlled the Council.
The increased Council Tax is due to be imposed on local residents as from the 1st April 2020.
Cllr Kevin Davis, Leader of the Conservative group said: “It’s terrible news for local residents that they will have to find the money to pay for yet another punishing LibDem Council increase. We already get charged the highest Council Tax in London, so to increase it by the maximum again is hugely disappointing.”
Cllr Rowena Bass, the Conservative spokesman for Finance, said: “A second maximum increase in two years is going to hit the poorest particularly hard. The LibDems haven’t put the work in to make sufficient efficiency savings, and now we are all going to have to pay for it.”
