David has lived in Tudor Ward for 35 years. First in Tudor Drive then in Cardinal Avenue and then Durlston Road. He is married to Rosalind and they have a grown up daughter Catherine and Boogie the Springer Spaniel.
He is a retired civil engineer. After an early career in design with structural engineering consultants he moved to construction becoming a director of a national construction company. He then moved on to environmental consulting, specialising in geothermal energy and landfill remedial schemes as the director as an environmental company.
He has been a Tudor Ward Councillor for the past 19 years and has been involved in local campaigns such as keeping open Latchmere Lane; saving the K5; and more recently the Save Tudor Library Campaign.
He has been Mayor of the Royal Borough and a past chairman of the neighbourhood committee and is at present the shadow executive member for Transport and the Environment.
He is a past chairman of governors of St Lukes School ; a local governor of Surbiton High School; a member of the Thames landscape Strategy Members Group; a member of both the Tudor and Richmond Park safer neighbourhood committees; a member of the probation liaison committee; a vice president of the Kingston Horticultural Society and a magistrate.
Dennis Doe came with Carolyn from the North East of England in I963 to begin there married life in Kingston. Their three children all went to local Primary and Secondary schools. Before retiring from paid employment Dennis worked within the Shell Group of companies before becoming a Management Consultant in a blue-chip Marketing Consultancy. Carolyn taught in a nearby Junior school until the children were born.
Dennis has been a Councillor since 1986 and has represented Tudor Ward since 1994. Significant achievements in Tudor include setting up the Hawker Centre with the YMCA as the managers, playing a major role in founding the Fern Hill Primary school, leading the development of Canbury Gardens as we know them today, sharing in protecting Tudor Drive Library from closure and improving the Tudor Hall.
His major role through his nearly 24 years on the Council has been in helping to oversee the Borough’s Education provision. He is recognised as being arguably the most informed and experienced Councillor in that important area of the Council’s work. He is currently a Governor of Tolworth Girls school, in his 31st year, and has just joined the Board of Fern Hill.
Dennis has chaired many major Committees and Working Group over the last 23 + years. In 2003 / 04 he and Carolyn were Mayor and Mayoress of the Royal Borough, raising a record £53,000+ for his “TummyCam” charity, – an investigatory facility now much in demand at Kingston Hospital.
Born Hampstead, London, married with two sons and four grandchildren. Educated at St Dominic’s RC School, NW5. Left school at 15 to start a five-year apprenticeship as a compositor with St Clement’s Press in the City. Two years National Service in between with the RAF.
Worked at numerous printing companies acquiring many specialised skills and qualifications at City & Guilds level including Typographic Design. One of the first to be employed by the Guardian on its move to London in 1961 to become a national newspaper. Worked for the Guardian/Observer for 34 years. Father of the Chapel of the Guardian Composing Chapel for many years, promoted to end career as
Pre-Press Manager.
Hobbies include gardening and rambling. Ran the largest, very successful, football club in West Middlesex for 14 years putting out three sides every week. Took a squad every year on an overseas tours. Elected 2002, served on Road Safety, Licensing, Environment and Kingston Town Neighbourhood . . . still learning!
