Our Pledge to you: Cleaner and Greener
As Conservatives we care deeply about the environment and our green spaces. We believe that our green spaces should be maintained to the highest standards.
We also know that we have a responsibility to care and for and protect our environment and since being elected in 2014 we have done just that. Contrary to the claims of opposition parties we have protected the green belt from development helping to ensure that this natural barrier which enriches our great borough isn’t harmed.
We have also over the last two years set about improving our parks as part of the Parks and Pavements project. We invested £2 million to regenerate parks across the borough which under the previous administration had received no direct capital investment leaving them to fall into ruin. As part of this project we also replaced a number of bins, benches and tidied up parks so that our green spaces which are so important to our communities continue to be as good as they can.
But we won’t stop there and this year we are pledging to help make Kingston cleaner and greener.
But how are you going to do this?
Kingston Conservatives have a four point plan to deliver on our pledge to make Kingston cleaner and greener. It uses a mixed approach to ensure that residents are put first and continue to get value for money:
- Roll out Phase 2 of the Parks and Pavements Project - Phase 1 of the project has been hugely successful and therefore we want to continue with this great project and make more footpaths safer and modernise more parks. Phase 2 will begin in the coming months helping many more residents benefit from great local services.
- Creating more seating - We will roll out more seating and benches throughout our parks providing residents with great views and a place to rest, read a paper, or appreciate our great Royal Borough.
- Planting more trees - In 2014 the Lib Dems had left 2,500 tree pits empty. Since then we’ve planted an extra 487 trees (over 1,000 planted in total). We will now replace all the remaining trees over the next four years as well as planting extra ones, making Kingston an even nicer place to live.
- Keeping litter down - Last year we introduced environmental enforcement wardens to help target those who litter on our streets. These have been successful but we know that there is more to do and that is why through the use of our enforcement wardens, our new smart bins, and a combination of other measures, we will help work hard to keep our streets clean and tidy.
Cllr Phil Doyle, Portfolio Holder for Resident Services said,
At this election we are pledging to help make Kingston Cleaner and Greener. We know that we’ve done a lot over the last four years to really improve the environment and the area that we live in but we want to do more to help residents really get the best from where they live.
Therefore we will plant more trees, create more seating, regenerate more parks and keep our great Royal Borough clean so that residents can enjoy Kingston to its fullest.
