Working to make our streets cleaner

Cleaner Streets
Under the Conservatives Kingston is a cleaner, more brighter Borough

In 2014 when Kingston Conservatives were elected, we made five pledges to residents to help make Kingston a Better, Brighter Borough, and we have delivered. Following on from these we decided to make five more pledges to residents so that we could continue delivering for residents.

One of those new pledges made to residents was to have a Clean Sweep of the Borough.

Here in Kingston we are lucky to have one of the brightest and cleanest Boroughs in London but we recognise that there is more to do to improve our Borough. Too often in the past under previous administrations our streets were filled with rubbish and our borough was left untidy. Residents demanded and deserved better than that so we set about on our project to deliver a cleaner borough.

Our streets used to be filled with rubbish but we introduced measures to make them cleaner

Since 2014 we have introduced a more efficient waste service that is helping to keep our streets clean. In the past our street bins especially those in the town centres relied on the Council’s waste team to physically go round and check that bins in the town centres were full. This was hugely inefficient and meant that the council was spending more time and resources on bins which didn’t need to be emptied.

To make the system more efficient Kingston Conservatives have begun to roll out new high tech street bins across the town centre. Using sensors these bins monitor the rubbish and then alert the waste teams when they are full, cutting out wasteful journeys.

Knowing that there was more to do, Kingston Conservatives rolled out Borough wide enforcement wardens for littering, dog fouling and a range of other environmental offences to ensure that our neighbourhoods always look the best they can.

Kingston Conservatives are committed to keeping our borough as clean as possible. Since being elected in 2014, we have; delivered a more efficient waste service, saving hard earned tax payers money; better public waste bins; and a new environmental enforcement officers who are working hard to ensure our streets stay clean.

As we continue to build a Better, Brighter Borough, for all who live and work in Kingston we will continue to look at ways in which we can keep the Borough’s streets clean and provide residents with value for their money.

Cllr Phil Doyle, Portfolio Holder for Residents Services said,KTG Doyle

When I’m cycling on my bike around town or taking my grandkids to the shops I don’t want to have to be looking at litter on the streets. We’ve made real progress since 2014 in cleaning the borough up and getting smarter streets and I want to continue this work.
