Bentall Centre looks to the future with plans for a new cinema
Plans to build a new and exciting boutique cinema in Kingston’s iconic Bentall Centre were recently approved at a meeting of the Council’s Development Control Committee, as part of the Bentall Centre’s 25th Anniversary celebrations.
The news comes as the Bentall Centre celebrates its 25th Anniversary with a raft of changes and improvements to the centre to kickstart a makeover of the centre. Plans have also been announced to introduce new restaurants, shops, a children’s activity area and improvements to entrances and communal areas to improve shopper’s experience of the centre.
The new four screen boutique cinema will be developed on the second and third floors with a glazed extension and terrace at roof level. The introduction of a cinema in the centre will give shoppers and visitors the opportunity to combine their shopping sprees with a trip to the movies.
Kingston Bentall’s Centre has been the prominent shopping destination in Kingston for the last 25 years. Playing a central role in the local community it is committed to engaging and collaborating with the residents and those who visit the borough. Over time it has evolved by enhancing its retail offer and providing new facilities to meet the needs of its customers, and it continues to be one of the main reasons why people visit Kingston.
Councillor Andy Johnson Creek, Portfolio Holder for Growth and Identity said:
I’m really happy that the plans for the new cinema have been approved. This is an exciting time for the Bentall Centre as it celebrates 25 years and a leap into the future. Building a new cinema in the centre will help to attract more people to Kingston and increase the cultural offer that the Borough has to residents and visitors alike. I look forward to seeing the cinema when its finally built and I’m sure it will become a favourite attraction for everyone.
