Andrew Day extinguishes ‘day burners’

Streetlight
Due to equipment failure, street lights were burning all day in Chessington

Councillor Andrew Day’s intervention has stopped months of energy waste from street lights remaining on during the day.

The street lights on the A243 Hook Road had been ‘day burning’ for months. Acting on behalf of local residents, Cllr Day contacted Transport for London to highlight the problem, which was fixed once the replacement parts had been arranged.

Cllr Day said:

It has taken a long time to get the special parts needed to stop this problem. Not only is it annoying for people living in the area, but it’s also very wasteful for the lights to be left on during the day. Although it was due to a malfunction, I think it also sets a bad example if people see street lights on during the day, so I am glad we have got the problem sorted.

Cllr Andy Johnson-Creek

Local Campaigner

Andy has lived in Chessington South for the last three years, commuting to London during the week for a job in PR. Prior to that he lived in Berrylands, Surbiton, where he has been a councillor since 2014. Now that he is up for re-election, Andy wants to again represent the place where he lives and where hehas based his young family. His time in the guidhall and as a school governor at Chessington Community College has shown him that the Southern end of Chessington down to Malden Rushett has been poorly represented for a very long time. If electedt as your councillor, Andy will ensure that this is no longer the case; and that Chessington has a loud voice in the guildhall on all issues - big or small.
