Parliamentary Candidate for Kingston and Surbiton Helen Whately wants local post offices to stay open because;

"Without neighbourhood post offices people will have to travel much further for everyday services. The elderly, who use post offices most often, will be hit hardest. Post offices also help bring business to local parades - the closures will make it even more difficult for small shops to survive".

Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Croydon North Jason Hadden wants local post offices to stay open because;

"It is vitally important that we retain and grow our provincial and local Post Offices. They are at the heart of our local communities. They provide not only a resource for local people, but a safe haven – a meeting point for those in most need in society. It is time we stood up for common sense and responsibility. It is time was acted to save our Post Offices"

Why are we campaigning to save these Post Offices?

Without these neighbourhood post offices, people will have to travel much further to go to their post office, and the queues in the town centre branches will get even longer.

This is especially worrying for older people who are regular users of local post offices.  Journeys to town centre post offices and long queues will be particularly difficult for elderly residents who have problems getting about.

Post Offices are crucial for local shopping parades and a focus point for communities. Local shopkeepers are very worried about the potential loss of business. These closures take us another step closer to losing precious local shops. Without our local parades we will have to go to town centre shops or out-of-town supermarkets, even just for a newspaper and a pint of milk.

What are the chances of saving the Post Offices
There is no question that the prospects for saving our Post Offices are slim. Past consultations have ended with closure, despite protests from residents. However, we should not give up! The more people who protest, the more chance we have of saving our Post Offices... and be sure to drop by your Post Office in the next few weeks to show them your support.
