Children First
It's Time to Put Children First

To give children the knowledge, skills and temperament they need to succeed in a risky and uncertain world, it is vital we provide more good teaching, more choice of school for parents, and more opportunities for children to take risks. A future Conservative government will:

  • Encourage more Risk and Adventure by changing the law to reduce the threat of litigation against responsible schools and other community groups, which threatens their ability to provide children with rewarding outdoors experiences. At the same time we will insist that risk management training is provided to new teachers so that they feel confident about exposing children to sensible levels of risk.

  • Launch Comprehensively Excellent, a celebration and dissemination of the best practices of our most successful state comprehensive schools. This will allow teachers and parents to see what works best to drive up achievement and empower them to insist on the same practices to be used in their schools.

  • Create new Pioneer Schools, independent, state-funded schools which can be set up by charities, community groups and other not-for profit organisations. They will be open to all children and provide parents with a diverse range of good schools able to cater to the needs of all children.
